Ayurveda is the sister science of yoga, and expands our understanding of who we are through the elements of nature. Ayurveda teaches us to look to nature’s body to better understand what influences our own body. Seasonality, geography, weather patterns and times of day all inform how we can care for our health intelligently. Exercise, sleep, food choices, and routine can be wisely tailored to seek harmony with nature’s current state.
Each individual has a unique combination of the three doshas (vata, pitta and kapha) that they are born with, known as their prakriti. Our current state is often out of balance, either slightly or significantly, and this is known as our vikruti. Lifestyle changes and asana practices can also be tailored to balance one’s vikruti and it can be incredibly helpful to have a practice tailored to balancing your doshas and alleviate any symptomology.
